A lot of different activities go on in our sea otter exhibit. We feed our otters four times a day but you might not recognize the food at first. We often put the food into toys, like food tubes, that stimulate the otters' natural behavior of pounding and working to get food out of shells. Our aquarists also teach the otters behaviors, like walking onto a scale or into a kennel, or holding a target with their paws to focus their attention and keep still.
This summer, plunge deeper into the wild world of otters with our new natural history book Wild About Otters. Filled with beautiful photos and fascinating stories, the book is your guide to the otter world—from southern sea otters off the California coast to their cousins in lakes, rivers and seas around the world.
